This is the letter I sent to Island Records...

Re: Tavistock College A Level Music Video Coursework
Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Lucy Gosling and I am a student studying Media Studies in Tavistock College Year 13. We are creating a music video for our A Level media studies coursework at Tavistock College. We understand that you are the owner of the copyright in the musical composition “You Got The Love” by Florence and The Machine. I wish to create the music video to this song. I would like to use the entire song in the video as we need to create the video to the music.I have also contacted Universal Music Group as I believe they are the part owner of the record also.
Since we are on a limited budget we are hoping that you will allow us this use without any charge. If this is not possible, please let us know what fee would be required for this use. The video we create will only be seen by our teachers and the exam board. I will only upload the video to an online site called blogger which will be password protected allowing only me, my teacher and the exam board to view it.
If you could send a conformation email, this will indicate that you will agree to permit this use without payment of a fee. Please let us know if you have any questions concerning this license. Also would you please let us know as soon as possible if this song cannot be licensed? This is so that changes can be made to the choice of song we use in our coursework. You can reach us in care of Darren Bird, Tavistock College, Crowndale Rd, Tavistock, Devon, PL19 8DD, 01822 614231, dbird@tavistockcollege.devon.sch.uk or my own personal email lucykate274@hotmail.com
Thank you for your help with this matter and we look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Truly, Lucy GoslingI found it very hard to find a contact for Island Records and I did not have any reply. But contacted UMG who replied back to me with some information to continue on with my progress of finding permission for my song.
From the reply I got a number. I was slightly unsure on whether to ring the number so I did my research on MCPS before giving them a ring. I emailed them as well with all the details in which I have done with all the other music companies.
I received a reply back, but it said that they could not help me. So I continued on to ring the number in which I was given from the UMG reply. Here is the phone call I had...

From this I found that it was fine for me to use the song and I was very pleased that all my hard working with emailing and sending letters and calling paid off!
